There is no better feeling a black person can have than running a single mother around all night, forcing her to neglect her other tables, who potentially will be leaving a 20%+ tip. (where she can pay her rent). The mother is degradged each time she delivers a refill to a sigh, complete silence, or yet another command that is barked out usually from a bulbous, overweight, classless cow. It is no wonder that racism in this country is still around. And I am insulted with your verbal tips, it makes me resent you even more. We are all so tired of your hood rich attitude, your lack of care for our communities, your lack of manners, and your sense of entitlement. We are also fed up with your perennial fickle complaints. Do us all a favor and learn to cook for yourself so we do not have to hear these complaints. If you're such control freaks then make it yourself. This is what everyone is thinking, including my black friends, when you speak.

Even Black people know many black people don't tip. I work closely with a valet service. You often see it from the ones that got the brand new Caddilacs. Newly detailed with rims. Sure the valet driver is gonna get something and then boom thanks nothing. They try to give you the claim check back like "do you need that?" The driver says no and thinks to himself you can't even afford the gas in this car.. Cause they're always on E. Then you get some black folks driving in a car that ain't so nice and they don't tip you either. But don't have a bad attitude all the times cause sometimes the black folks in the normal car will tip you pretty damn good. But yeah most black people that don't tip are just hood rich. And they ain't even have to be out the hood they still got that mentality.

I agree with everyone. I am also a waitress and am used to getting at least 20% tips or more because I know that I am an excellent server and very attentive to my guests needs, as well as personable and fast. It is true that black people absolutely do not tip well. I was lucky to get $4.00 off a $35.00 check tonight, with 3 ladies dining. I work in an upper class area too. And they WILL RUN YOUR ASS!! The minute you bring them what they want, they want something else. Get a refill, and then He, wants a refill. Then she wants a napkin. Then he wants some more cream. For God's sake, when we ask you if there is anything else you need, think of it all at once!!! All that running, then we get stiffed on the tip. It is embarrassing. Have some decency...and yes, if you can't afford to tip, DON'T GO OUT and order a boatload of food. But still, I never treat a table differently. I carry a huge smile and say "no problem" to everyone. Every now and again you will get a "black" table who does know how to tip!!

I worked as a waiter while in school, I can tell you. Blacks do not tip. I have black friends. They still do not tip. What can I say? My friend is working right now waiting tables... last night he had 5 black ladies eat $80 in food and drinks ran his skinny butt all over the place and when it came time to pay the check.... 30 minutes after closing time... no tip...when asked how the service was, they stated "GREAT!" When the matter of gratuity was brought up.... they stated.... "Not this time" My thing is if you do not want to tip. Go to a drive thru. Plus, we are all judged by how the majority of our social, ethnic, etc. group act or behave, that is life. I still have a large variety of friends from all walks of life.

There is plenty of animosity toward the black community in the restaurant business, and rightfully so. I found this blog out of frustration. I am a student and I serve on the side. I happen to be white, but I was raised in one of the most diverse areas of Cleveland, and I have nothing against black people except when I'm serving them in restaurants. My tip money has to pay for ALL of my bills and expenses. Tipped employees rely on tips to sustain themselves. Here's some information, if you really want to be educated about why tipping is so essential.

Most servers make an hourly wage of $2.13 per hour (except in places like New York City and LA, where everything is so expensive). That's over $3 less than minimum wage, guys. Servers rely entirely on tips, mostly because when you get your paycheck, you might only be getting $6.31 (the amount of my last paycheck). That $6.31 for 60 hours of work over 2 weeks is what's left over after taxes, so you don't pay taxes from your tip money. Basically, tips are everything. I don't want to hear another person say "why should I tip you for doing your job?" Obviously you were raised by morons if you believe that tripe.

2. Most restaurants require servers to "tip out" the busboys and bartenders. At my restaurant in North Carolina, we have to tip out 3% of our total sales. I had a table tonight of one black woman and one black man. They ordered alcohol and expensive entrees, then complained and kept running me all over the restaurant to get them countless refills on sweet tea, bread, butter, extra dressing, you name it. They bought $51.04 of food and drinks and left me nothing. However, since that $51.04 got factored into my tip out, I actually ended up paying to serve them. 3% of $51.04 is $1.53. So, in the end, IT COST ME $1.53 TO SERVE A COUPLE OF UNGRATEFUL JERKS. I have been "stiffed" (left with no tip) 5 times at this restaurant, and it is extremely frustrating.

The American economy is a system. This is a part of the system that works well when everyone does what they're supposed to do. When people tip 15-20%, servers make more than minimum wage and can support themselves and their families. When they don't, they can't. And, if you don't "believe" in tipping, then you have no business going to a restaurant that has tipped employees. Go to McDonald's and do us all a big favor.

I am a Black Woman who is a server in a restaurant. I have read through the postings, I believe one of the main problem with why black people don't tip appropriately is because they don't realize or appreciate the amount of work that servers actually do and it is customary based on the type of service provided (It's not a Wendy's or McDonalds when you would just grab and go). To minimize that servers just bring food to the table is just one facet of our responsibilities. Making sure the order is correct, making sure you get your drinks, etc. etc. However, educating our brothers & sisters would be a great start. It is a USA custom to tip 15%-20% if they want to receive decent service and to be welcomed to an establishment instead of tolerated.

This happened to me twice today on a not so busy lunch. To add insult to injury, most of my black patrons while being by far the least generous they are also the most demanding and rude customers I encounter. Its so disheartening because you want to like every table you approach, but when people have no regard for you; its tough. It would be one thing if these were foreigners, but they're not...they're Americans, they know better. I am so sick of it, its not a misunderstanding...its just cruel. Teenagers are one thing, but we should not make excuses for ANY American adult. Any person that goes out to eat needs to learn some manners because this is how we earn our living.

I work in a Japanese restaurant, you know, where they cook the food on the grill at your table. We have to tip the chefs $1.35 per head at the end of the night.

While I must say, I have had plenty of white people who tip bad, the black people stand out as bad tippers because we only get a few a day. I have been there for 3 months, and am still waiting for a tip over 5% from a black table. Unfortunately for me, even when I get stiffed, I still have to tip the chefs for them anyway, so waiting on blacks where I work actually costs me money.

I am a waitor in NYC. What i have personally noticed is that in general black people are actually worse tippers. Not all black people, but i can say the majority are by fact. About 4/5 of black tables i wait on stiff me with tips. I actually go out of my way most of the time to make their dining experience far better then the average customer because i expect a bad tip. Today i gave on black table 20 dollars worth of free drinks, something i could technically get fired for cause i'm not meant to do that at all. Their check was 98 dollars after taking away the price for the drinks. This table ordered lobsters, filet mignons etc. They left me 5 dollars. Not the first time this has happened but i still try. There is one thing i have noticed though, and this goes for everyone. You can tell as a waitor by the questions you get asked about prices and sizes of portions and how they watch the cost of the meal whether the table is tight on cash or not. Some tables that are, and leave me bad tips, are very kind and respectable throughout, and are very kind and nice when tipping me that you kind of get the feeling it was a good tip for what they can afford. My feeling to that is, try n spend less money so u have more to tip, but really if your nice and tip bad, in the end i'm not going to mind. My only gripe is with bad tippers who take up 90% or your time and still don't seem happy with anything. Its sad that, yet again this is not prejudice, this is actualy fact from waiting on table from years, about 90% of the mean tables i wait on that stiff me are black. I believe this is what gives them the bad reputation. White people aren't great either so you know, but black poeple are usually worse.
Moral of the story, if your nice to your waitor when he is taking care of you and u stiff him, as long as your nice and u gave what u could its fine. The world hates people who demand the world and give nothing back to it

Being in the pizza business, I felt I had to post my thoughts on this subject. If you think that Black people tip as good as whites, your head is in the sand. If I want to predict my tip, I look at the name on the ticket. Simple as that. I know that some black customers actually tip quite well. But the great majority do not. And let;s not even get into the excessive demands that many of them place on us: Separate tickets, calling back after their order is already in the oven to make changes. With some customers, we don't start cooking their food till they've called back to make their changes. And my favorite is being asked for cheese and pepper AFTER being stiffed. Come on folks, are you that dumb? And I feel embarrassed for my black co-workers, none of whom like delivering to black customers, when they talk about "their own people" and how crummy they tip.
