Another Day & The Music Dies Again
It is another sad day indeed. International Records in Peachtree Center has closed. It was great eclectic little record shop in Peachtree Center that had a great selection. Howard Cohen, the owner, decided to retire and with him went the shop. A sad day indeed. That combined with the closure of giants such as Tower means it’s going to be harder to browse through music in Atlanta. It also means there is no longer a record store in all of downtown.
International Records will be missed and is to be thanked for providing so much good music to the community. Mourn.
No better eulogy exists than DNB’s Blog entry about it.

I wonder, do you have any roads or landmarks that don’t include, in some fashion, the words “Peach”, or “Peachtree”? It’s starting to make me feel all creepy-crawly….

On the one hand, I’m a bit disappointed this guy didn’t sell the store. On the other, who would fill his shoes?
And congrats for Mr. Cohen making it all the way to retirement. 30-something years of running a private store in Atlanta is something not likely to be repeated in today’s market.

What about Dumpster Dive?
Don’t they sell music?

There’s still Wuxtry, Earwax and Wax & Facts…oh, and Ella Guru. There are probably more independent record stores than there are independent bookstores these days, and that’s sad. I miss Wordsworth Books!

Isn’t this just part of the whole trend with music?
I don’t think it will be long before all music stores as we know them go away.
CDS are soon to be replaced exclusively with downloadable tracks.
